Winery Coteaux du Liban from Lebanon
The Coteaux du LIban is the result of the collaboration and legendary endurance of the Abou Khater family.
Nicols abou Khater
Nicolas Abou Khater had a vision, which was to produce his own wine. Of course in his own winery. So he went to France to study oenology at the University of Dijon in Burgundy and returned shortly after his diploma in 2002.
He then founded Coteaux du Liban and started building the wine cellar near Zahlé in the Bekaa Valley. At the same time, he acquired six hectares of land, three fifths of which he planted with Chardonnay and two fifths with Viognier. In addition, he made arrangements with some of the local winegrowers, who then would supply him with red grapes.

Young Roland Abou Khater
Nicolas Abou Khater watsch the birth his dream while working without a break. Roula, his wife and talendeet pianist, supported in his plans. And of course also his son, who often accompanied him to the vineyards and helped him in the cellar.
Unfortunately, Nicolas was not able to enjoy the realization of his dream, since he died in an car accident in 2009. Roula, however, decided to continue her husband's work and dream. Her son, who was only 14 years old at the time, was already able to actively support her in the vineyards and cellar. Their first challenge was the bottling of the red wines from 2007.

And when the filling machine made problems and puzzled Roula, Roland came into action, who fortunatley knew enough to continue production. With the help of an oenologist, Roula was able to maintain quality and continue production. Her son studied oenology in France and now proves to be quite talented as a winemaker.
Blanc du Clos, for example, is vinified from our own grapes and reveals to be very subtle, fruity and freshwhith hints of oak and honey. This style seems to be a characteristic in all of their wines such as their Rosé Désir or Rouge Passion, a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carignan and Grenache. Their vineyards are located at the slopes of the Bekaa valley (hence the name "Coteaux du Liban"!), vcapturing the terroir's virtues embracing them as intense fruity, soft tannins and lots of harmony in their wines.
